“I am the punishment of God...If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.”-Genghis Khan

Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare's bloodiest and most misunderstood play. It is a tale of revenge. Everyone is seeking revenge against someone else. What do you think of revenge? Is it ever justified? Why do you think we are obsessed with revenge stories? What does that say about our culture? Ourselves? Explain.

  1. I think that revenge can lead to someone feeling that they have a right to do something that they really should not do under any circumstances. It can lead to misguidance when someone thinks their actions will be justified. I think in some cases revenge can be justified. I think we are obsessed with revenge stories because they are not accepted in society so we love to see them here. It says that our culture is obsessed with abnormalities in behavior. Our culture is focused on our relationships with one another and how they can go wrong and that is where revenge comes in. -Brandon Day

  2. I find revenge is not something even worth considering at the end it does not resolve anything and when driven by it it always results negatively because it is not something done with good intentions. Don't fight fire with fire it only makes a bigger fire, but fight with water and terminate it. Revenge is not justifiable although what has come to result in the feelings may make us feel like its only right to do something We never want anyone to do someone to do something to us, but we think it's alright to do what they did to us or even worse back. It's just continuing the cycle of harm and evil. Were so obsessed with revenge because it triggers in all of and for the most part what we think or want to do to others stays in our imagination and stories illustrate it for us.Like Brandon said our culture is so concerned with all the wrong we can do we publish and spread more bad news than good news.

  3. I personally do not believe in Revenge I believe in karma. In no way is Revenge ever justified, it is a contradictory. You are not right by doing something wrong because someone did something wrong to you. You can never kill or lie and be right. We are obsessed with revenge because we know it's not right, we normally let karma take its place or let someone else get our revenge for us. Our love of revenge shows are are bad people, we're individualist who only care about ourselves, and like Brandon said we are concerned with the bad. - SylviaWilliams

  4. Revenge is like candy. At first when you have a lot it is sweet, but later you regret having it all because you feel sick of it. I believe more in karma like sibs! My mom believes revenge is not good. She believes "what comes around goes around". Booya! first to put the mom in a blog! Anyways, we favor revenge novels because it is what we want, but sometimes we cant have it

  5. Revenge, for the most part, is like a disease. As you exact your revenge on your enemies, you become poisoned yourself. So I do not feel that revenge can be justified, at least the majority of the time. There are occasions, though on which I do feel that it can be justified such as when a deed is so evil that no amount of "karma" can make up for it. For example, when Gerard Butler tortured and killed the man who killed his wife and daughter, I felt as if he was completely justified in his actions and the murderer deserved every bit of the torture. I would have done the exact same thing if I were in his shoes. I firmly believe that some horrible deeds need to be taken care of in the most severe way by the people who it affected the most because they deserve the satisfaction of revenge. Sometimes you just have to take karma into your own hands. We are so obsessed with revenge stories because we want what we can normally can not have. All of us want revenge for something somebody did to us in the past, but for some reason we can not have it. So when we see this happen to somebody else in a story, it gives us a feeling of satisfaction. This says that our culture is consumed by violence and the desire for evil. It also says that we are selfish and hateful because selfish desire to have revenge breeds our hate and anger towards others.

  6. Revenge, well in my perspective, is when one feels as if they have a solid reason to get back at someone who has wronged them, and they need to come back at them, twice as hard. Revenge can never be justified, even if one gives in, and the other person may feel more powerful, what both opponents did was still wrong in some way. Being the people we are today, we are probably obsessed with revenge to the extent that we are because we all have done it, we all think of it, and having models does nothing but open up our mind to more ways of making it happen. Watching action and drama movies about it shows different ways in which people going about causing harm to someone who has not treated them fairly. This shows that our culture is very self absorbed and that me are quite violent. Other cultures who are very individualistic are probably even worse than us.

  7. Revenge is never justified. When someone hurts you and you hurt them back, it just creates a vicious cycle until something stops it. Although, we don't always think about whether or not our actions are rational or justified until later, especially with something as heated as revenge. Our culture is obsessed with revenge and this can be seen in literature and movies. Our obsession with revenge is probably linked with our interest in violence. Most people enjoy horror and action movies due to fighting and gore and revenge typically leads to violent outcomes. This obviously reflects negatively on us both on an individualistic and cultural level.

  8. Revenge is something that can never be marked as justifiable in our society because even after we seek it we stil never feel the gratification we wish we did. Even after taking revenge on your sister's killer still doesn't bring her back or take away the pain. Today's society is obsessed with revenge because it is praised by the audience or in movies that we watch so therefore we model and copy this behavior. This shows how individualistic our culture is today and how we fail to aid one another. Also, we are too absorbed in our own lives and fail to worry about others or make a choice because it would help others. -Alicia Wilson

  9. Revenge is something that eats away at our humanity and can make one go insane to achieve it. Overall, most revenge cannot be justified because we just act according to our feelings and allow them to control us. However, I do think there are sometimes cases that can be classified as justifiable because I believe the person deserved what they got. In our society we always love to watch stories where people achieve their revenge because we often think about the times where we wished we could have gotten back at a certain someone, but was not able to. It shows people that our society acts based on our feelings and tends to not think things through completely before doing them. Also, we are exposed to violence on a daily basis so we become desensitized to it and therefore we tend to copy the same behavior. It shows how our society enjoys violence and how individualistic societies have negative consequences to them.- Thomas Cummings

  10. Revenge is never justified - two wrongs never make a right. Revenge can make you feel good but it is never the right thing to do. We are obsessed with revenge stories because we always know that it will come and bite them in the butt. We know that they can't simply kill someone for revenge without them getting into some more trouble. Our culture is based on getting back at people - even though it is not the proper thing to do.

  12. I think that revenge will never be justified, but the person that is taking revenge on someone else may think it is the right thing to do. This is because of our emotion taking over our actions, which is when we stop thinking with reason and logic. Our culture is so obsessed with revenge, that we fail to see the real right thing to do about a situation. This displays how selfish and individualistic our culture has become. We only think about ourselves and the feelings we will have after we take revenge out on someone.

Revenge Is an obsessive feeling that is fulfilled usually through an act of some type of violence tO get back at somebody for hurtin you. We probably tend to enjoy literature and movies containing revenge because it's a powerful emotion that we are able to empathize with other people including characters. This says a lot about our culture, it. Shows how we aren't able to let things go and strive for a just world .... For ourselves anyway. The world sometimes is not just and thats what makes us angry and revenge is our angry way of making it equal.

  14. Revenge would be never justified because like Maryam said, two wrongs dont make a right. Even though sometimes if feels like the deserve it, karma will come right back at you. We are so obsessed with revenge in our culture because we think getting back at somebody is the only way to make our feelings feel better. Like when a boyfriend/girlfriend cheats on girlfriend/boyfriend, the other feels better to do it back because its like a taste of their own medicine. We only think about ourselves when revenge comes into play. Revenge stories are always the best because we can relate to it so well, since mostly everybody has taken revenge on somebody. They are most interesting im my view.

  15. Revenge is just getting back at something that has done you wrong. The purpose for revenge is just to make you feel better about what happened. Revenge has a whole can't be justified, but to one person it can. If you get revenge on something it does make you feel better, well it does to me. Our culture does obsess over revenge stories just because they are the most interesting. If Tom beat up Joe and Joe just accepts the fact that he got beat up and doesn't do anything back, that is not interesting. If Joe decides to make a plan to get revenge onTom everybody is interested.

  16. Revenge is something that is not justifiable. To me it is a strong emotionally driven action to get back at someone that you believe did you wrong. Getting back at someone just creates an endless circle that keeps on going until someone steps up and realizes that there is no point to continue it on. In my own opinion, karma will come around and take care of anything that is still lurking. Revenge stories are always full of brutality and little remorse which is why we are so fascinated in them. Our culture loves to watch violence and other people getting what we believe that they deserve
